The demand for energy has increased enormously and is expected to continue growing. Due to the energy transition, many sectors are shifting towards electrification; processes that previously used fossil fuels are now switching to electricity. As a result, the demand for large-scale consumer connections is rising. To meet this demand, the grid must be expanded. However, these expansions cannot be carried out quickly enough to meet all the requests.

Additionally, the increase in energy generation systems, such as solar panels and wind turbines, which feed electricity back into the grid, plays a role in the congestion. The grid is often not designed to handle this extra supply of energy. This concretely means that new solar parks sometimes have to be temporarily shut down before they can generate and deliver power to the grid, or that companies wanting to expand their production cannot yet start doing so.
