A zero-emission drilling under the train tracks in Amersfoort
More and more often projects take place on locations without grid access and in many of these situations setting up a genset no longer suffices: the rules surrounding local emissions can pose a challenge. Bredenoord gladly helps clients find a suitable solution, which we recently did for Heijmans during their project near the train tracks in Amersfoort.
Construction firm Heijmans came to Bredenoord with a specific query. They had an upcoming project in Amersfoort that involved drilling under the train tracks. However, there was no grid access on location, so Heijmans was looking for a mobile power supply. Their contractor had an additional demand though: the drilling had to be executed emission-free. Bredenoord then came up with a fitting solution: using a Battery Box 300L, which would power Heijmans’ electric power pack.
This allows them to work for an entire week without an on-site grid connection and without having to set up a genset.
Wim Lucas, Area Manager at Bredenoord, elaborates on the use of batteries. “Heijmans called us because they want to do an emission-free drilling, for which we delivered a Battery Box 300L. It is turned off at night, but since they want to power a camera then we also set up a smaller battery: the Battery Box 30. This is also connected to the crew wagon, to power devices such as the coffee machine. This setup allows Heijmans to work for an entire week without an on-site grid connection and without having to set up a genset.”
Julian van der Zanden, Operator Drilling Techniques at Heijmans, elaborates on the goal of this project. “Our contractor asked us to execute an emission-free drilling under the train tracks in Amersfoort. Bredenoord’s Battery Box powers our electric power pack, which powers our drilling rig. This project is an open ground drilling across a length of 25 meters. We are installing a casing tube under the tracks, through which we run a pipe that will heat the switches on the train tracks.”
