Hydrogen Power on the Grote Markt in Groningen during ESNS festival
The Hydrogen Power, Bredenoord’s latest hydrogen innovation, was set up on the Grote Markt (main square) during ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) 2023, as part of the municipality of Groningen’s Hydrogen program. This was a collaboration with the organization behind ESNS and The Powershop.
Hydrogen genset with fuel cell technology and battery pack
The Hydrogen Power is a hydrogen genset with built-in fuel cell technology and a battery pack, allowing the Hydrogen Power to be put to use anywhere to provide continuous, stable power. Central to the development of the Hydrogen Power was the goal to achieve the stability and flexibility of a regular genset. This is why we joined forces to test the hydrogen genset in a festival environment, in order to develop a new standard on a practical as well as legal level.
Hydrogen: part of a sustainable future
Hydrogen will play an important role in the transition to a world in which we use more clean, low emission power. Bredenoord is aware of this and already launched its first hydrogen genset in 2009, and has worked continuously on clever ways to use hydrogen in mobile energy systems ever since.
Sustainable hydrogen through electrolysis
Using hydrogen produced through electrolysis is free of CO₂ emission. The outcome of the process (hydrogen, warmth and electricity) is therefore sustainable. It is, however, important to look into how the hydrogen was originally produced.
Benefits of the Hydrogen Power
- Continuous power supply – Providing continuous stable power on location through the combination of a battery pack and a fuel cell.
- Clean and quiet – No output on location except for water and power, ideal for projects in residential areas due to its quiet operation.
- Flexible – Standalone mobile power solutions for any locations. Can instantly make projects with a low power demand more sustainable.
Pilot phase
Its power of 35 kVA allows the Hydrogen Power to contribute sustainably to many projects. At the moment Bredenoord is running pilot projects with the Hydrogen Power on several locations. The results and user experience of these pilot projects will be used to shape its further development.
