New in the battery fleet: Battery Box 30

Bredenoord recently introduced the new Battery Box 30, BB30 for short. One of the smallest and most modern battery systems from the specialist in temporary and mobile power solutions. For instance, the BB30 can deliver high peak currents and you can charge it directly with solar panels.

new Battery Box 30At Bredenoord, Robbin Sanders, as Product Manager Energy Storage, is more than pleased with the new Battery Box 30. The BB30 is not just new in terms of capacity; this battery system also marks the beginning of a new era with several unique usage possibilities.

170 and soon 250 systems

‘We now have a rental fleet of 170 battery systems with outputs from 15 to as much as 600 kW. The BB30 is interesting for our customers because this system fills the gap between the existing systems of 15 and 80 kW. Another advantage of the BB30 is that its footprint matches a Euro pallet's. So you can put it anywhere, making the BB30 ideal for smaller power needs on a construction site with a small grid connection. Despite its compact size, the system has an output of 30 kW and a battery capacity of 69 kWh.’ The range of battery systems is constantly evolving, growing by 80 systems to as many as 250 by early 2025.

Peak current delivery for electric motors

Another feature that makes the BB30 special and at the same time versatile is its ability to supply larger peak currents thanks to an oversized inverter. Sanders: ‘Peak currents are generally a challenge for battery systems, but thanks to the oversized inverter, you can also start a water pump for dewatering or an electric motor of a tower crane, for example, without any emission problems with the BB30. You can also combine it with a Stage V genset whereby the genset then runs at a nice load. Using energy from the generator during the day and bridging the night silently with the battery system is then an ideal option.’

Also charging at 230 volts

A unique feature of the BB30 is the large number of options for charging the battery. This can be done via a three-phase mains connection, with a generator, solar panels (such as the Mini-SunBox), and single-phase 230 V mains. The latter is unique, according to Sanders. ‘You can charge the system with 1 or 3 phases while the output always supplies 3 phases and that is really an added value compared to all other systems. Obviously, the charging speed differs per situation, but peak shavening allows you to make optimal use of the grid connection by storing as much energy as possible in the battery. Or storing the output of solar panels.’

Prepared for a safe future

“Of course, all our battery systems always comply with the applicable safety standards and regulations, ensuring they can be transported, charged, and used safely at all times. Additionally, the BB30 is one of the first systems to meet the new PGS 37-1 guideline for the safe storage of electricity in energy storage systems. The requirements of this guideline will have a significant impact on battery technology, and our BB30 is already fully compliant.”
