More than 5,100 employees ensure that high-quality veterinary medicines are developed and produced here. It is important that these medicines are stored under the correct conditions, which requires a reliable power supply. Bredenoord was asked to provide this for the site in Barneveld. Virbac was founded in France in 1968 by a veterinarian and microbiologist. The company quickly became known for the development of vaccines and various other products, but also for its approach: Virbac is for and by veterinarians and maintains close contact with them. This means the company knows exactly where the demand lies in the veterinary world and how it can meet it. The Benelux market is served from the Barneveld site, where Virbac has a large storage facility for medication. This climate-controlled storage facility requires constant access to sufficient power. Sloof Elektrotechniek, Virbac’s in-house electrical contractor, was asked to build in greater reliability in this regard. “We often work with Sloof,” says Cor Bouma, Sales Account Manager at Bredenoord. “So when this request came up, they got in touch with us. We concluded that a 60 kVA emergency generator would be sufficient here. With its 250-litre internal fuel tank, this generator can run at full load for around 24 hours in the event of a power cut. After making that decision, we visited Virbac’s site, partly to work out how and where best to position the generator.” It turned out to be most practical to install the generator indoors. Next to the large hall where the medication is stored, there is a small room, ideal for the generator. “We installed a ventilation system there to draw in and exhaust cooling air, and an exhaust system that leads outside through the façade. We also supplied a transfer panel, which ensures the generator starts up automatically as soon as the mains power fails,” said Bouma.
